Wisconsin virtual school students celebrate prom at Goodman Community Center

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – More than 200 students enrolled in virtual school programs gathered at the Goodman Community Center on Saturday for their own prom.

Students danced, played games and met their classmates in person, some for the first time.

Organizers said the event gives students a chance to experience a classic tradition so they don’t miss out on high school milestones.

“I’m very excited,” Maggie Mae, a 10th grader at Wisconsin Virtual Academy, said. “I came here last year, and it was just amazing, like every year. A lot of kids meet other kids, and it’s a very good social program in my opinion, because we all meet each other and we have a really good time. It’s like a drama-free zone where you can just be you, and it’s really nice.”

Students said it’s one of the fun ways they get to connect with others during the school year.

Students from Wisconsin Virtual Academy, Destinations Career Academy Wisconsin and Insight Academy were all able to celebrate together.

A virtual prom option was also available for students who could not travel to Madison.
