WIVA offers full-time enrollment for grades K–12 and part-time enrollment for 4K.

English/language arts, math, science, and social studies/history are core courses. There are also other courses and electives in the appropriate grade levels, such as art, health/PE, music, and world languages.

Yes. We provide textbooks and instructional materials. These books and materials are dependent on the student’s grade level and the courses they’re enrolled in. High school students receive fewer books and materials than elementary and middle school students.

Our elementary school offers two learning options: Direct Instruction and FLEX.

• Direct Instruction: Students participate in daily live class sessions for reading and math, organized by skill level. They also complete asynchronous work. In this model, students progress at the pace set by their teacher.
• FLEX: Students do not attend live class sessions. Instead, their Learning Coach (a parent or responsible adult) helps answer questions and supports them in completing asynchronous lessons. FLEX students may move through the curriculum at their own pace.

In middle school and high school, students learn through a combination of synchronous (live) and asynchronous lessons. They are expected to complete quizzes, tests, and assignments within established deadlines.

In the younger grades, many online lessons include offline work. Students in grades 3–5 spend no more than 15 to 30% of their school time on the computer. Screen time increases in middle school to 50 to 70%, and by high school, students spend at least 80% of their time online. 4K students are expected to spend less time on screens with more emphasis on hands-on learning and offline play-based activities.

Yes. The program is flexible to meet children where they are in any given subject and take them where they want to go. We use the rigorous K12 curriculum, which is well-suited to the needs of academically advanced students. Our teachers work directly with parents and students to ensure proper placement into the curriculum. High school students can take honors and AP^® courses.

Students have many opportunities to build friendships and connect with peers. They interact with classmates online during school activities and also through in-person outings, field trips, and special events.

Beyond these opportunities, students can participate in:

• K12 Zone, a safe online space for students to engage socially
• School-based clubs that meet around shared interests
• K12 National Clubs that connect students across the country
• Homeroom and Community Circles for relationship-building within their grade level

There are no home visits as part of the program and no other intrusions into your home.
