Celebrating Accountability Success

Stories & Spotlights

Dear Wisconsin Virtual Academies Families,

The start of this school year brought change and challenges—but as a community, we continue to shine. With our ongoing growth in enrollment of more than 10% each year, we are committed to our mission: to support every student with personalized learning, no matter who they are, where they live, or what they need.

The hard work, patience, and perseverance of our students, Learning Coaches, and dedicated staff have truly paid off! Thanks to your commitment and collaboration, we are proud to share the following accountability results.

On November 11, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) released its annual school and district report cards. These report cards are part of the state’s accountability system and use data from standardized assessments to calculate scores across four key areas: achievement, growth, target group outcomes, and on-track to graduation. Each school and district receives an overall rating—from Fails to Meet Expectations to Significantly Exceeds Expectations—along with a star rating.

Both WIVA schools earned “Meets Expectations”!

WIVA 4K8 achieved an overall score of 60.2 with a English Language Arts Growth a score of 73.8, out pacing the state average. Similarly, WIVA High School scored 64.8 and outpaced the state average ELA growth with a score of 77.4  Insight School of Wisconsin continues to make steady progress, and Destinations Career Academy, which has grown by 300% in enrollment over the past three years, received “Meets Few Expectations.”

It’s important to note that these scores are based on in-person tests taken each spring. Because only about 60–70% of our students travel to participate in these exams, the scores reflect only a portion of our student population. They do not fully capture the academic growth and success our students achieve in their virtual learning environments.

This fall, we participated in a virtual proctoring pilot that allowed students to take the Forward Exam at home. We are hopeful that by spring, this option will be available for all elementary and middle school Forward Exams—a significant step toward creating a fairer, more accurate reflection of student learning.

As a school community, we continue to see strong academic growth among our students. Our teachers and staff remain deeply committed to every student’s success. We are especially proud of the significant gains made over the past year—a testament to the hard work of our students and the dedication of families and staff to educational excellence.

We remain steadfast in our mission: to provide equitable opportunities for every student across Wisconsin, no matter who they are, where they live, or what they need.  Every child in Wisconsin deserves equitable access to education, and every child is welcome here.
