At Wisconsin Virtual Academy, we’re dedicated to equipping our students for success in college and beyond. Through our Advanced Placement® (AP®) courses and AVID college readiness program, students are challenged and supported as they develop the skills and independence needed for higher education and future careers.

Advanced Placement® Courses: College-Level Learning from Home

Our AP® courses offer students the chance to engage with a college-level curriculum during their high school years. These rigorous courses foster critical thinking and analytical skills essential for college success.

In our AP® program, students can:

Explore Advanced Subjects: AP® courses allow students to dive deep into their interests, preparing them for the AP® exams and igniting a passion for learning.

Earn College Credit: By taking the AP® exam, students can potentially earn college credit, giving them a head start on their higher education.

Develop Independence: AP® courses require effective time management, independent work, and deep engagement with challenging material—skills crucial for college and beyond.

We recommend students interested in AP® courses have strong subject interest, complete necessary prerequisites, and obtain a recommendation from a teacher or counselor.

Honors Courses: Challenging and Skill-Building

Wisconsin Virtual Academy’s honors courses challenge students to think critically and work
independently, pushing their academic boundaries.

In honors courses, students will:

Evaluate and Synthesize Information: Engage in advanced research and critical analysis.

Enhance Writing Skills: Develop advanced writing skills, preparing for college-level coursework.

Participate in Honors Projects: Delve deeper into subjects through special projects, fostering creativity and independent thought.

These courses are ideal for self-motivated students eager to challenge themselves academically.

The AVID Program: A Pathway to College Readiness

Wisconsin Virtual Academy offers the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program, focused on helping students develop the skills needed for college success. AVID aims to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success.

In the AVID program, students will:

Strengthen Study Skills: Learn essential skills like notetaking, organization, and time management.

Improve Critical Thinking: Engage in rigorous academic exercises and collaborative study groups.

Prepare for College Applications: Receive support in navigating the college application process, from researching schools to applying for financial aid.

A Launchpad for Future Success

At Wisconsin Virtual Academy, high school is a time to explore, challenge, and prepare for the future.
Our AP® courses, honors courses, and AVID program provide students with the tools they need for success in college and beyond.

By taking advantage of these opportunities, students at our school are building a strong foundation for lifelong success. Whether earning college credit, developing advanced skills, or gaining a competitive edge in college applications, our students are empowered to take charge of their education and future.
