What’s Happening at Wisconsin Virtual Academy This Week?

We’re heading to the Children’s Theater of Madison to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical! Jeff Kinney’s popular character takes center stage as Greg’s cartoon diary becomes a hilarious and heartfelt musical. Will Greg’s plans to become popular lead him to sacrifice his one true friend? Grab a hall pass and don’t be late for an adventure familiar to anyone who has attended middle school.

Date: Wednesday, October 23rd

Time: 10am (Please arrive 30 minutes before this time.)

Cost: $10/Person (PayPal)

Parking for The MyArts Center: There is free street parking in the neighborhood surrounding the MYArts building. Parking in the MYArts Parking Ramp (1055 E. Mifflin) is $2/hour and can be accessed via Ingersoll St.

Open to students in grades 4K-12 and their families. Recommended for grades 4 and up. Children ages 3 and up are welcome.

DEADLINE to register: Tuesday, October 8th.


12pm-1pm: LC Help Desk 

  • The Learning Coach Help Desk is an optional session that all learning coaches can attend if they need additional assistance.

3:40pm-4:30pm: Chess Club

  • Join us to learn how to play chess, improve your existing skills, practice successful strategies, study openings, and have fun playing chess! No experience required.
  • Open to grades 9-12.

12pm-1pm: LC Help Desk

  • The Learning Coach Help Desk is an optional session that all learning coaches can attend if they need additional assistance.

12pm-1pm: Student Council

  • Student Council plans events like spirit weeks, volunteer projects, and other activities that bring everyone together. The Student Council also acts as the voice of the students, making sure your ideas, concerns, and suggestions are heard by the school’s leaders. They work together to make our school a better place for everyone!
  • Open to DCA students.

1pm-2pm: Art Club

  • Art Club will be a place to share art, practice drawing, and do crafty projects together!
  • Open to grades 6-8.

1pm-2pm: Plan Your Dream Vacation Club

  • Open to grade 8.

2:30pm-3pm: Neurodiverse Learners (NDL) Club

  • Join us as we make friends, share interests, and support each other!
  • Open to grades 6-8.

3:30pm-4:30pm: Fiber Crafts Club

  • Join us for knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidery, crewel, tatting, and quilting! No experience necessary. Bring your projects and work on them while hanging out with crafty people! Please provide your own supplies.
  • Open to grades 8-12.

4pm-5pm: Minecraft Club

  • Join us for Minecraft 101, challenges, and SMP!
  • Open to grades 9-12.

9am-10am: LC Orientation

  • Learning Coach Orientation is a mandatory class for all new learning coaches to attend. Learning Coach Orientation sessions are offered every week three times a week.

2pm-2:30pm: Photography Challenge Club

  • Gather with us as we chat about our photos, share tips, and work on challenges together!
  • Open to grades 4-5.

5pm-6pm: LC Orientation

  • Learning Coach Orientation is a mandatory class for all new learning coaches to attend. Learning Coach Orientation sessions are offered every week three times a week.

8:30am-10am: LC Community Coffee

11am-12pm: Music Club

  • Music Club is a place where you can meet like-minded people who love singing, playing instruments, forming a band, and more! Build your skills and have some fun with people who also love music!
  • Open to grades 9-12.

  • If you’re interested in practicing personal, workplace, and technical skills, join us for competitions, leadership conferences, school-to-career connections, and problem solving!

12pm-4pm: K12 Career & College Prep – Enrollment & Enlistment Expo

  • Ready to take charge of your future? Don’t miss the K12 Career & College Prep Enrollment & Enlistment Expo on October 4th! Whether you’re eyeing college, trade school, or just exploring your options, this is your chance to connect with opportunities that match your goals. It’s all happening from 12pm-4pm. Save the date, and let’s start planning your next big move!

  • The Poets’ Society exists to cultivate young poets who think creatively, write dynamically, and share courageously. Join us to read, write, and share poetry with other students!

4pm-5pm: Chess Club

  • Play weekly chess tournaments with your classmates!
  • Open to grades 7-12.

  • Dive into a world where emotions come to life and find what brings you joy! In this build challenge, you will meet Joy and Anxiety from Inside Out 2. Solve a puzzle using Microsoft MakeCode then use Minecraft as a canvas to build a representation of something that brings joy to your life. To play this world you will need to download Minecraft Education and use your K12 login credentials to activate your license to play the game world. So, what is something that brings you joy? Show off your Minecraft skills by building how you find joy – and your build could win you a $25 Amazon e-gift card!

  • DEADLINE to submit your build: October 31st by 4:00pm.
  • Enter K12’s annual game development competition. Pitch your idea for an educational video game, show off your creativity, and win big prizes! The K12 Game On Competition is open to students in grades K-12. Students will be split into divisions based on their grade level and judged against students in the same division. Students interested in participating should pitch their idea for an educational video game by 4:00pm on November 18th. Parents or guardians must enter on behalf of students ages 13 or under.

  • DEADLINE to submit your pitch: November 18th by 4:00pm.
  • Time to gear up for the 2025 K12 Robotics Competition. Your student can showcase their creativity, problem-solving skills, and coding expertise for a chance to win $500! The K12 Robotics Competition is open to students in grades 4-12. Students will compete against others in their grade band. To enter, students must have Virtual Robotics Toolkit (VRT) software, which can be downloaded for just $50. This powerful software is an essential tool for designing, building, and programming the robots that will take part in the competition. The software will serve as the virtual playground for participants to create and test their robotic solutions. Students interested in participating should download the VRT software and complete the registration form by 4:00pm on December 16th. Parents or guardians must enter on behalf of students under the age of 13.
