Meredith Altmann, High School Special Education Teacher

Meredith Altmann, is our newest member of the HS special education and WIVA team! After teaching Kindergarten in Japan and then three years of high school special education in Janesville, she decided to make the move to an online environment, which would allow me to be closer to my family in Dane County. Meredith loves science, space, Japanese culture and theater, and tries to find meaningful ways of incorporating all four into her lessons with students.

Jessica Betts, High School Special Education Teacher

Jessica Betts started her Special Education career in ID (Intellectually Disabled), working with high school students. She then moved to working cross categorical with elementary students. She worked with students within the classroom and really enjoyed her time working collaboratively with teachers. Ms. Betts then transferred to an EBD self-contained where she worked with students of all abilities that are unable to function in a general education classroom. These students are either way above their grade level or way below grade level which is leading them to have behaviors in the classroom. She found she really enjoyed working with them over the years at all different grade levels from 1st to 9th. Jessica has 2 cats and a service dog; she is doing well with her training even picking up on things that she wasn’t trained to do. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and crafting.

A. J. Dahl, High School Special Education Teacher

The 2019-20SY will be Mr. Dahl’s first year as an online teacher and his 7th year overall as a special education teacher.  He was born and  raised in Eau Claire, WI, which is where he received his undergraduate degree in Special Education at UW- Eau Claire in 2012.   After a few years of teaching, A. J. went back to his studies and completed a master’s degree in  Special Education from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 2017. He said that one cool thing he did during his time there was to publish a paper in an educational journal. Some of his side passions include playing with numerous pets, watching his favorite team the Milwaukee Bucks, and listening to hip-hop music.  He is thrilled to be embarking on this new educational journey with WIVA.

Shawn Daniels, High School Special Education Teacher
