High School English Teachers

Amber Van Hale, High School Language Arts Teacher

Amber Van Hale graduated from St. Cloud State University in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in speech communication. She earned a second bachelor's degree in 2004 in English from The College of St. Scholastica. She is certified to teach English in grades six through twelve. Prior to moving to Wisconsin, Amber taught high school English for five years in brick–and–mortar schools in Minnesota. Her favorite part of teaching English is watching students explore literature and make connections with their own lives—and the world around them.

Pamela Fierst, High School English Teacher

Pamela holds a bachelor's degree in English and secondary education, with a history minor from St. Norbert College. She earned a master's degree in education with a social studies emphasis from St. Norbert College in 2002. Pamela taught AP English, AP History, and English for at–risk students at a Wisconsin brick–and–mortar high school for 15 years before relocating with her family to Oklahoma City, OK. While living in Oklahoma, Pamela taught 8th grade language arts and United States History for Edmond Public Schools. Now, back in the Midwest as a virtual teacher at WIVA, she enjoys guiding students along their individual learning paths from the online platform.

Betsy Jibson, High School English Teacher

Betsy Jibson graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in English Teaching. Before teaching at WIVA, Betsy worked at Madison East High School, Polaris High School (an alternative school for at-risk youth in Orem, Utah) and completed her student teaching at Timpview High School (Provo, Utah) teaching Honors 10th grade English. Betsy is excited to be back in Wisconsin; she was born and raised in Green Bay!

Desirae Nault, High School English Teacher

Desirae Nault graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in English education and went on to teach eighth grade language arts in the traditional environment.  Wanting to experience a new frontier in education, she joined the K12 team with the Arizona Virtual Academy in January of 2008 as the seventh grade English B teacher.  In May of 2008 she was given the opportunity to join the AZVA high school team and loved the accountability and rigor of the program. After moving back to Wisconsin in the fall of 2009, Mrs. Nault worked both as a high school and middle school teacher for WIVA. For the last two years, she has enjoyed teaching in the traditional classroom, but she is excited to be back in the virtual environment at WIVA!
